High Energy Bill Concerns?
Here are some helpful ideas to lower your electric bills:
General:
- Choose the "Time of Use" program offered by both APS & SRP.
- Use programmable thermostats so you don't have to worry about turning the air off when you leave.
- Use ceiling fans to feel cooler in each room and save 2%-3% in electrical costs for each degree above 80*.
- Use CFL light bulbs and save 75% in electrical costs. This also reduces the heat created by standard light bulbs by 75% which lowers the cooling load for each room.
- Install window screens and save approximately $250 a year.
- Wash & Dry clothes in the morning to help reduce humidity in your house and use during off peak hours.
- Use your grill instead of your stove or oven in the summer to prevent overheating the kitchen area.
- Water your lawn in the early morning to prevent quick evaporation and lower temperature around the house.
- Plant shade trees near southern & western windows.
Water heaters:
- Install a timer. Average water heater cost is $600.00 per year. Turn off for 8hrs a day and save 25% or $150.
- Install an insulation blanket. Most heaters are set for 140* which loses heat even in the heat of the summer.
Pool timers:
- Summer hours: Set for 8-12 hours of run time (during off peak hours).
- Winter hours: Set for 6-8 hours of run time (during off peak hours).
